Started fly fishing: Most of my fishing life was limited to the use of spinning gear. As time went on, more and more of my friends talked about the fun they were having fly fishing. One of my buddies was taking a fishing trip up to Dilligham, Alaska and he talked me into joining him. This trip is what really got me into fly fishing.

Best day: My second day in Alaska was my best day of fishing ever! We flew in by bush plane to the Upper Nushagak River. The beauty here was as good as it gets. We were fishing for massive rainbow trout using mouse patterns. I spent all day pulling in huge, colorful rainbows and feisty grayling. The time of year I was up in Alaska it only gets dark about two hours a day. Plenty of daylight for great fishing.

Favorite lake, river, or salt fishing spot: The Upper Nush River is my favorite spot to fish so far. It's a great place to relax. Clean air and not a building or road in sight. Complete silence except for the sound of the rushing water. There were dozens of bald eagles, moose, bears, caribou....you name it. I had to get my relaxation in at the end of the day though. I was too busy catching fish whenever I had that rod in my hands.

Ideal trip of a lifetime: After my trip to Alaska it would be hard to believe that there could be anyplace better. I'd love to take my Dad up there and let him experience it for himself. Words don't do the place justice! Right now I really want to fish Mongolia. I keep hearing about Taimen, a huge salmon-like species that are ferocious predators. The place is very secluded, so you have to take a helicopter in. My kind of place.
