Steve, just after smooching

Name: Steve Raymond
City: New York, NY
Occupation: ESPN
Why I fly fish: Started fishing when I was 8 yrs old with
a family friend and mentor. Big Mikey took me to Nine Mile Creek
in Western Nebraska and introduced me to elk hair caddis and dry
fly fishing...I was the proverbial "hooked."
Best day: Late February 2002, South Island of New Zealand.
Me, two fishing buddies and nothing but perfect dry fly water.
I threw a cicada imitation 3 feet in front of 9 pounds of hungry
brown trout and watched it explode out of the water. After 15
minutes I brought it up and kissed it. Perfect spot, perfect fish,
perfect sport.
Favorite lake, river, or salt fishing spot: I grew up fishing most of WY and MT...so I love a spring creek with big fish.
Trip of a lifetime: Someday...my friend and I will start
in Tierra del Fuego. With a rust bucket truck, basic sustenance
(mostly consisting of beer), and a case of penicillin we'll slay
the pigs up the Pan-American highway, ending in Alaska.
