   David Haeberle

Name: David Haeberle

City: Rock Springs, WY

Occupation: Sales Rep

Age: 27

Started fly fishing: As a youngster I used to fish with my uncle during the summer. He would always get me set up with some bait or a spinner and send me on my way. Then he would head out to do some "fly fishing." I can remember sitting on the shore of the lake and watching him release fish after fish. I knew then I wanted to learn how to fly fish. So after some begging, my mom bought me my first fly rod from a garage sale for my 13th birthday. That's when my addiction started.

Best Day of Fishing: I was in college and my buddy Chuck called me and said, "You know this time of year (March) can be spectacular on the Green" (the Green River in Utah, below Flaming Gorge Reservoir). "As a matter of fact, I'm here to tell you this is going to be the best fishing of your life!" How could I say no to that? Ditching class was an easy decision. We headed off for a long week of some of the best fishing I have ever seen to this day at the Green. There were midges and BWOs coming off in waves and finding there way into my ears, mouth and sun glasses. But more importantly, there were fish everywhere gorging themselves on the springtime feast! Many fish were released that week and now many lies are told!

Favorite Fishing Spot: I like nothing more than grabbing a sherpa and heading out for some high country exploration. Breaking out my 2wt and chasing Goldens and native Cutts in the Wind Rivers Mountains provides me some serious good times. And who says size matters?! Then of course there is the upper Green River and hopper season and Yellowstone National Park in the fall. Insanity!

Ideal trip of a lifetime: Two words...New Zealand! I love a good tactical day on the water. Days that you toss everything in your box and then do it again because you think you may have missed the magic bug. I've read and heard stories of big browns that inhabit those waters and how tough they can be to catch. I would love the opportunity to challenge them to a game of fly fishing chess...
