As they say, Kane is Able...
|
Name: Jared Kane
City: Dover, NH
Occupation: Loan Officer
Started fly fishing: When I was 14 years old, I used to
spend my summers with my Grandfather in Northern Maine fishing
for wild native brookies. From then on, I was hooked!
I started tying flies and got my New Hampshire guide license in
college. I also started the UNH Fly Fishing Club. Pretty much
fished 300 days year at every brook, river and stream I could
find in New Hampshire and Maine.
Best day: Wow, many come to mind…it's hard to choose just
one! Catching a 36-inch, 19-pound Lake trout in New York on 6lb
tippet (an unofficial IGFA record, but I released the fish). Fly
fishing for wild trout in Scotland couple years back…or fishing
for small native brookies in a small brook in the North Maine
woods with my Grandfather.
Favorite lake, river, or salt fishing spot: I've fished
all the major spots in New England (Connecticut River, Penobscot,
Grand Lake Stream, Rapid, etc.) but to tell you the truth, nothing
beats pulling 12-20 inch native brookies out of the remote pond
my family has a camp on in Northern Maine!
Trip of a lifetime: My dream has been to catch an Atlantic
salmon. I did my senior research thesis in 2002 on the Extirpation
Of Salmon from New England Rivers and became obsessed with catching
just one! I spent every last cent I had after college to go to
New Brunswick and fish the Restigoche with a buddy…four days of
freezing cold and no hits, but I would do it all over again if
I had the chance! I'm currently planning a summer-long trip to
fish as many places in New England and document it on video with
my buddies.
