Name: Steve Hyans
City: Salt Lake City, UT
Occupation: Director of Sales - HourDoc.com
Age: 44
Started fly fishing: It was 1979 and I'd just graduated from high school. A buddy and I went to Bend, OR with our "noodle" spinning rods and a box of Mepps and Rooster Tails. The family friend we stayed with handed us a flyrod to share on our first day out. Never touched the noodle rod again.
Best day: It's hard to narrow it down to one memorable moment, but a similar scenario for many that comes to mind is this…new, unfamiliar water, nobody else there, cloudy/drizzling fall day, dries coming off, fish are eating, I've chosen the right fly, good company, cold microbrews in the ice chest and knowing next weekend I'll be doing it all over again.
Favorite lake, river, or salt fishing spot: Living in
SLC (which I'd consider a "hub" to many of the best fishing destinations
in the West), it's almost impossible to come up with just one.
But if I had to choose…I'll go with the rivers of Idaho, Montana,
Wyoming, Utah.
Trip of a lifetime: Patagonia or flying in to an off-the-beaten-path lodge in Alaska fishing for enormous rainbows with a guy holding a 44 Magnum behind me.
