Thad livin' the dream in Patagonia...
|
Name: Thad Robison
City: Salt Lake City, UT
Occupation: Owner - www.riversofparadise.com
Started fly fishing: I started fly fishing in the early
80's on the South Fork of the Snake River near Menan, Idaho. I
lived with my cousins on a dairy farm, milking cows, a stones-throw
from the South Fork. Every afternoon (after chores) we would grab
the fiberglass fly rods and Marten reels, hop in the old GMC pickup
and head to the river till dark.
Best day: If I had to pick just one it would be the day
I was fly fishing a boca on an isolated lake in Tierra del Fuego.
I was on a recon expedition, searching for fish in unknown waters.
It was hell getting there but soooo worth the trip. On one small
stretch of water at the outlet of the lake I landed steelhead,
sea run brown, resident brown, rainbow and world-class brook trout.
All in the company of condors and foxes and an old mountain man
we met on the lake who we dubbed Clint Eastwood. Not to mention
the riverside asado and fine Chilean wine. Muy Bueno!
Favorite lake, river, or salt fishing spot: Any piece
of water in Patagonia Chile and Tierra del Fuego. The pure beauty
of the fish and the landscape is a tough one to ever top. Clean
air, crystal clear water, fantastic glacier covered mountains,
solitude and casting to fish that have never seen a fly. It's
a favorite place dreams are made of!
Trip of a lifetime: An expedition into Russia and Mongolia
for Taimen. It is the next check mark to fill on my list of places
to cast a line. I love to keep my trips in a true exploratory
fashion. Finding and going to difficult places by crappy roads
horseback, boat, chopper or foot.
