Started fly fishing: I've been hunting, fishing and diving
in South Florida since childhood. It's in my blood!
Best time angling: On the first day of the Rolex IGFA
Inshore tournament, a client from New York and I released
four tarpon to outpace the closest team by two fish. The second
day, we again outscored the field by releasing three tarpon and
went on to release a fish every day thereafter. By the morning
of day three, tropical storm Arlene was moving north from the
Caribbean and the weather in Islamorada was already in rapid decline.
At start time, the rain had already begun and the wind was blowing
at 20-25 knots and gusting in the 30s. Our closest competitor
was looking at the daunting task of having to release five tarpon
under extreme conditions in order to beat us, a task which would
be difficult under perfect conditions. The Tournament Committee
decided to call the tournament that morning (given the dangerous
conditions) and we were officially the winners. Good times!
Favorite lake, river, or salt fishing spot: I love all
of South Florida's fly fishing. Can't
get enough!
